Pedal position monitoring sensors

Description

In racecar applications, pedal position sensors are used to monitor throttle and brake pedal movement or, in 'drive by wire' applications, operate the throttle via an electronically controlled actuation system. The sensor can be either rotary or linear in operation and is mounted with the operating shaft connected to the pedal. As the pedal is depressed, the movement of the sensor provides an accurate proportional voltage signal to the ECU or data logger. In a 'drive by wire' system the throttle pedal sensor controls the fuel flow into the engine and is usually duplex (dual output signal) in design for control signal redundancy. Drive by wire throttle systems have less moving parts (reduced weight) and provide increased responsiveness through the rev-range of the engine. Pedal position monitoring is also of great benefit in driver development programmes. Active Sensors offer a number of 'motorsport ready' sensor solutions for pedal position monitoring.

For bespoke applications we offer a comprehensive design, manufacture and speedy delivery service to satisfy the fast paced engineering developments associated with international motorsport.

MLS Linear potentiometers

The Motorsport Linear Sensor (MLS) 'super' low-noise linear potentiometer designed for suspension measurement in motorsport data acquisition systems. The new 'long-life' sensor ensures a longer 'noise-free' operating life in severe vibration and high G-force conditions.

Rotary potentiometers

RP rotary potentiometers are designed for the most demanding control and measurement systems. Used extensively in motorsport for throttle and gearbox control, steering angle measurement and the monitoring systems of the chassis. The RP is available with a choice of electrical angles and mounting options.

Rotary Hall-Effect sensors

RH long life rotary position sensors are available with single, or dual outputs and up to 360° of electrical angle. Output options are analogue (0 - 5V), PWM or serial CAN 2.0 and RS485. They have a 12-bit resolution (0.08°) over the measuring angle and an impressive update time of <2mS, making them ideal for dynamic control and measurement systems.

Linear Hall-Effect sensors

Hall Effect linear sensors are designed to provide cost effective position measurement utilising proven contactless Hall Effect technology. They operate from a 5Vdc or 6-30Vdc supply and have outpit options of 0.5V to 4.5V, serial CAN 2.0 or RS485.
