Active Sensors specified for tank testing by MIRA

17th May 2008

MIRA,a major vehicle-testing organisation has specified Active Sensors CLS19 linear potentiometers for the measurement of chassis movement on military vehicles. The vehicles are not only subject to tarmac tests, but also to a full off road evaluation around the testing ground at Bovington, Dorset. Due to the severe conditions that these vehicles are likely to experience, the sensors were subjected to an extremely rigorous evaluation process involving a mixture of water, dust, gravel and rocks. The specially designed shaft scraper seal, which seals the units to IP66, was key in preventing the ingression of mud & water into the body of the sensor. After the testing was completed, all eight sensors were still in full working order. The chief testing engineer commented that he had been seeking a reliable sensor after having experienced many problems in the past with designs from other manufacturers, which failed at the first hurdle. He was extremely impressed that his expectations had been completely surpassed.
