Miniature LVDT sensor specified for applications where mounting space is critical

19th October 2007

Active Sensors have developed the smallest and most compact short stroke LVDT for Formula One control & measurement applications. Motorsport design engineers require smaller and lighter sensors to operate in higher temperature environments (200°c+). Active Sensors LT0800 range of LVDT’s (8mm body diameter) has been developed, as demand for an increased measurement range from a smaller space envelope is necessary due to the ever-decreasing size of the modern Formula One cars engine, clutch and gearbox. The LT0800 LVDT is also used to measure brake calliper position, which informs race engineers of the level of brake disc wear during racing. Due to the LVDT sensors very compact design and high accuracy (typical non-linearity of +/- 0.5%), many new applications have developed within industrial markets including robotics and animatronics.
