Further approval for Active Sensors products from Formula One race teams
13th May 2011
With the start of the 2011 Formula One season imminent, Active Sensors, the 'Number One' supplier of high performance control and measurement position sensors is delivering full technical support to the F1 teams testing prior to the season start. This support includes ensuring the cars arrive for the first race compliant with the homologation rules, which state that all control and measurement position sensors and electronic circuits connected to the standard ECU (engine control unit) must be approved by the FIA (Federation Internationale de I’ Automobile). Active Sensors has undertaken the homologation process on behalf of the teams and has extended its certification to include the additional sensor designs required for 2011.
The homologation certificate issued to Active Sensors by the FIA is thought to be the most comprehensive of any position sensor manufacturer and extends to six pages covering the latest measurement and signal processing technology available in motorsport.
New sensor designs for 2011 include:
- Miniature LVDT's for clutch release and calliper measurement systems
- Ultra-miniature linear potentiometers for damper movement measurement
- Contactless linear and rotary Hall Effect sensors for gear position
- Miniature sensor signal processing electronics for LVDT and RVDT sensors
- Contactless throttle pedal sensors with integral signal conditioning
