New compact 'low-profile' rotary position sensor for extreme applications

Active Sensors, a designer and manufacturer of precision sensor technology has introduced the NEW compact ‘low-profile’ RH5540 ‘contactless' rotary position sensor.
The RH5540 utilises proven ‘contactless’ Hall-Effect technology to provide OEMs with highly accurate rotary measurements in extreme industrial and off-highway applications. The rugged, fully sealed sensor is ideal for use in arduous operating applications including articulated control systems in vehicles i.e. tip, lift, four-wheel steering and electro-hydraulic control systems. Unlike conventional captive shaft position sensors, the RH5540 has a separate actuator assembly, allowing the sensor to be used in extreme environments that are subjected to high temperatures, fluid, debris, shock and vibration. The RH5540 ‘free shaft’ design offers a multitude of customer mounting options.
The RH5540 sensor operates from either a 5Vdc regulated or 6 to 30Vdc unregulated supply and has built-in over voltage protection. The output signal is 0.1V – 4.9V with a 12-bit resolution (0.08°) and the operating temperature is 140°C, with excursions permissible to 170°C. Every RH5540 sensor is heat cycled prior to final calibration to ensure output stability when operated at elevated temperatures. The sensor is fully configurable with a selection of input and output options, including measurement angle and clockwise or anticlockwise output signal direction.
